Jeffrey Holmes incorporates elements of mysticism and lyrical expression rooted in primitive myths, transcendent legends, and dramatic elemental landscapes in their primal and violent states.
His music is microtonal, complex, and often unnervingly intense. Coming from a lineage of composers like Xenakis, Grisey, and Ligeti, Holmes’ music has been described as post-spectral and teleological. However, to even the uneducated ear, the horrifying and disorienting sensations are unmistakable.

Holmes' fearsome writing style and avant-garde instrumentalist Peter Jacobson's performance meet in a remarkable balance between the complexities of experimental chamber music and feeling of sheer terror. Throughout the five movement concerto, Jacobson’s well trained musicianship is placed under the direction of Holmes, who pushes the cellist toward his most tragic project yet.

Horch records continues to push the boundaries of its horror themed brand with its first classical release.  Holmes and Jacobson are both veterans of the Los Angeles new music scene, and this first collaboration with Horch Records is a virtuosic, morbid, and microtonal piece of art.

The LA Times has called Jeffrey Holmes' work “Captivating… the haunting and slightly disorienting sound disrupts

and engages the open ear.”
